After collecting and analyzing of sent to us users' opinions about this program it takes our editors award with a rate "5". This means that this program is popular and was found as convenient and useful.
Useful if you need to rename a large number of files in a directory accordingly to their ID3 description and a given "formula" (e.g. (%Track) %Artist - %Title). Such a function is pretty "smart", as it lets you assembly the filename as you wish and use the variables from the ID3 tag in the filename. It is required you mark them with a "%" at the beginning, followed by an ID3 section label (literally - i.e. the first letter is capital, exactly as it is referred to in the roll-down menu). Do you have loads of MP3 files in a directory and need to write a single common piece of information into them (e.g. the interpret or the album name)? You can type it in there manually, but this won't make you very cheerful if the amount of files is large. Using ID3 renamer, everything is a matter of a few mouse clicks. Do you need to clean some portion of the ID3 tag? Use ID3 renamer and don't erase like every single line. Do you need to remove the diacritics? Choose the advanced options and it's already done. ID3 renamer can also create a new tag if there is none in the file yet; it lets you easily write into new files too. You can also fill the tag with information from the filename (alike the renaming process). Just type in the pattern, definition of information layout in the filename and ID3 tag version - and ID3 renamer will store everything. The pattern is given in the form of a regular expression. ID3 renamer fully supports ID3v1, ID3v1.1, ID3v1.1+Winamp extension and ID3v2.x.

1- I don't like it that there's no preview option
2- I don't know why but when I used the option "Tag from filename" the "Continue" Button wasn't accessible so this option was useless.
Mp3tag v2.43 works like a charm and it's also freeware........

I was hoping to clean up the collection of songs that I have to make them more manageable with itunes and my new ipod touch. It renames files as intended, but most of my files were not properly tagged, so this program was not helpful in this project. I had hoped that I could get my music organized in some easy way, but in the end it required several other programs and a lot of typing to fix a mess that it took me years to make.

Hi,
I downloaded and tried your program but I could not get the "help" to work and therefore I used a trial and error method. I worked out how to change the formula but one cannot see what is happening until it's happened. Also I still do not know what "Diacritics" means?
What I wanted to achieve was to remove the track number from each MP3 song. I have converted all my favourite songs from my library of CD's to MP3 and now I want to copy them onto a CD or SD flash card to listen to when I'm traveling.
I hope this information is of any help to you.
Regards,
Eric

This product works great. I managed to fix some mp3 that just wouldn't copy properly because of missing tag info. It allows you to manage your all your files with ease and speed. Simply, it’s an excellent program.

Works fine, nice and intuitive interface, with a fast rename (the id tags must be complete, to be renamed), but it would be better if it has no error! everytime with some types of archives (says error! and just don't say what kind of error!). Also it would be faster if I can add subdirectories...
ad archives> Archives? Can you clarify this a bit more?
ad subdirectories> But you can. Look at Preferences.

I should add that I became desperate for a utility like id3-renamer after I got my creative zen vision w for christmas. The zen stored all the mp3s i'd ripped on linux and transferred to windows (the zen software only runs on windows), but when I ripped the cd's, the ripper only populated the id3v2 tags, but the zen reads and files things by looking at the id3v1 tags, so I needed to synchronize tags in over 2, 000 songs i'd ripped over three days. Not a chore to be done by hand.
also, the zen organizes files transferred to it, using path layouts from your pc, plus segregating things by media types based on extensions (mp3 is assumed to be music, and mpg is assumed to be video, etc.) the zen does not allow you to rename or alter folders, files, or file locations once it has the music downloaded to it. Also, it displays id tag information only from id3v1, but it lists files by filenames (which really screwed me up on the many files I have where the track number ended up being the first part of the filename!)
i will be using id3-renamer to populate and synchronize all the id3v1 and v2 tags, and correctly rename all the files in a fashion that will allow the zen to download them in some pattern that will make sense when I go to look for my music on it. The zen can also select by tag info and it would be nice to make play lists based on the genre field, once I get those populated, too. Now that I have id3-renamer, all this is not only possible, but feasible.
Well creating playlist based on genre shouldn't be big problem at all. Please visit http://forum.id3renamer.com and post this request (so other users will be able to see it) and I'll add it to ToDo list.

I had said posted a review titled: "didn`t do what I needed" after not seeing quickly enough how to batch copy id3v2 tags to id3v1 tags. But I've deleted that review because now, after getting the very polite reply from the author about using tag synchronization, I've gotten it doing all I need, plus I've even found out how to use a manual lookup at freedb to populate the id tags and even rename the files if I need to.
This program rocks. I was way off base earlier and had not given it as thorough a checkout as it deserves. If anyone else is about to post a negative review for not getting it to do something for them, they should (like I should have) check the forums first to see if their problem has already been discussed.
In my case, the only problem was the lazy user - me.

After a bad format, I could recover nameless MP3 files from my hard drive. It was terrible for me since I had more than 1000 MP3 files, without names, and folders. Thanks tı ID3 renamer, I could be able to give the MP3 files their original names from their content and they were even better than before!

Maybe point and click, drag and drop has made me lazy but the almost hieroglyphic formula entry presented a real obstacle to use. Reading the help files on the forum I was able to make it do what I wanted (mostly). However, I found that the parsing approach failed where characters of interest were inserted e.g as part of the title. If all titles were the same format, this could be accommodated, but exceptions made whole-directory tagging problematic.
On the other hand it did everything well and the FreeDB lookup, when it actually found the album, was brilliant.

I have a Sansa MP3 player. I want to create audio tags that can arrange my songs by genre that I create (e.g. soul 60s, or mellow 60s).
It would be great if I could go to Explorer, display all of the fields (e.g. title, artist, year, genre, etc) and change any details that I've picked using a search and replace by highlighting only the files I want changed.
ID3 renamer has nothing to do with Explorer. So I'm little confused what are you talking about.
