Screenbook Maker is free software that allows you to create, publish and print your own Screenbooks - and much more. A Screenbook is a web-based picture book that demonstrates via screenshots and text how to use a computer application. 6/19/2007: I've used version 1.0.100 for over a year and found it extremely powerful considering its ease of use. I've used it to construct procedure documents for the accounting department of my company to be posted on the company intranet and accessible by accounting department personnel. Screenbook Maker provided the solution for helping to make, otherwise boring literature, a little more "readable" by the average user. My department workers attest to this.
However, I recently "upgraded" to SBM 1.3.0 and found that a lot of the "functionality" I experienced with 1.0.100 was either difficult to find or was no longer available. Specifically, the ability to insert graphic links escapes me right now and the "View" and "Image" menu choices do not function in "Edit" mode. I also experienced program "crashes" when doing things as simple as deleting a graphic from a slide. The previous version was sometimes "buggy" but not to the extent of what I'm experiencing now.
The worst part is, I installed 1.3 over 1.0.100 (as recommended) and now cannot revert back to the previous version (can't find any downloads for 1.0.100). I guess I'll just have to learn 1.3.0 a little bit better.
After all is said and done, SBM (1.0.100) is, in my opinion, probably the greatest "gift" to all those who want to create interesting tutorials or procedure documents. I hope I'll be able to overcome my difficulties with 1.3.0.
