Windows Vista

Hello,
I downloaded some software from the MSDN Acedemic Alliance web site. It comes as an ISO image and I wanted to burn it to a virtual DVD so I downloaded MagicDisc. However, I couldn't figure out how to do it with what I got from the MagicDisc installation. When i ran the software, the help screen didn't look anything like the software that was running on my machine. So I uninstalled the software and just burnt it to a DVD.

I tried it, and I think it is wonderfull, but to be honest I used it 3 or 4 times, but I think it is great, thank you very much.

Just what I was looking for! Easy to use interface - mounted my DVD ISO images in Vista without problem.

Although it took a little while for me to work out how to use it for what I wanted to do, it mounted the two disks I had on seperate "drives" and installed my game perfectly. A good, simple program.

The MagicDisc was a really great program. It allowed me to do what I needed and it was really easy to understand and follow. I don't think I could have asked for a better program.

for windows i like poweriso best... but i used ut before and it is nice.

Easy to use CD/DVD emulator. I find emulators faster than actual disks. A must for backing up software/music

Great product - easy to download and install. Excellent user interface. I'll certainly be back for more!!

exactly what i'm after.. Not too much of interface, but it's ease of use.. ANd it's also working at Vista..

Good bit of software. Nice to not need those pesky optical disks!

This is a great product. In fact it allows us to create virtual drives very easy, without consuming much time!

I have found MagicDisc Virtual DVD/CD-ROM very useful for my work---I often need several disk images mounted for quick access and MagicDisc Virtual DVD/CD-ROM does the job perfectly.

Works as described! I had tried another executable which failed. Magic Disc worked first with little setup and learning curve!

I was looking for a product that would help me get rid of my stack of Software and Data DVD / CDs, as I travel for business with only my laptop with me. In addition I was looking for compression, password protection, mounting, and an "open" product with an image format that can be used by alternative programs. I am using XP and not intending to switch to Vista until there are real benefits for me.

I found that product in MagicDisc.

MagicDisc is currently freeware. Among the image formats it can make is UIF, a compressed ISO format that can be password protected. UIF can be used by other programs. Creating UIF images generally goes fast. Mounting these images is very fast. Images are verified before mounting them. One can have up to 8 virtual DVD / CD drives - more than enough. How often do you need 8 DVDs at the same time? The compression is good, better and faster than RAR-ing an iso. I have been using it now for several days and have created and mounted images for about 30 software CD / DVDs, without problems. To give an impression, the 30 CD / DVDs take less than 10 GB on my laptop. I have encountered no conflicts, errors or instability. Some older CDs take a bit longer.

Right-click to get menu some people maybe need to get used to.

Functionality I maybe looking for is to edit and recompress the images, as to get rid of obviously unneeded parts and save further space. But this is not an absolute must-have.

It seems the edit functionality is in the commercial version MagicIso, which now also can handle DAA format. I would be interested in finding out any advantages of DAA over UIF and vice-versa.

Altogether I can definitely recommend MagicDisc

Although I have not extensively used the program yet, it did exactly what I wanted (UIF conversion) without any hassles.

Very good and easy to use. Ran well on Win XP Home.

Such a beautiful little program... use it to create disk images (in several formats)... store them on DVD or hard drive... then use MagicDisc to virtually mount disk images as if they were the actual CD/DVD. Makes it so easy to back up a multi-disk installation! And I've performed all tasks through a simple menu handily available from the system tray icon. It's like finding a missing part of the OS.

I could not properly test MagicDisc because it caused problems with my Vista computer. Upon installation and use, the system froze. Restarting failed to boot windows and windows could only be booted by switching to a previous configuration without MagicDisk installed.

Used MagicDisc on other systems but it failed to install properly on the Vista system. Wasted 2 hours trying to get it to work. Found other product to work.

I was not able to use it due to compatibility issues during installation on Vista environment.

A problem as this program is Not compatible with VISTA.

The program was very easy to use, although it froze up the computer and made it restart in protected mode. So I uninstalled it...

I was a litte worried this program could get me trouble with Vista but it works fine. Really nice not to have to burn out all programs to install them (I am an MSDN subscriber).

Application: I am currently testing a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) built on a 32 bit Windows Vista box. It was very important that I am able to mount virtual drives for some of the software applications that I use.

MagicDisc enabled me to accomplish the installation tasks I needed, and thus I am very pleased. In Win Xp, I used Alcohol 120%, which is much more expensive, and currently does not support Vista RC1. I do miss the ability to mount more than one virtual disc simultaneously--if this feature is available in MagicDisc, I was unable to find/use it (mind you i was rushed and impatient).

The only issue I have with MagicDisc, was difficulty installing. The install process went smoothly, but after the restart, the error message, "Cannot find the driver" for the virtual disk would flash. The work around was to just run the installer again, and then the app would work. I am not sure this problem is due to MagicDisc, or Vista RC1 UAC settings -- I have had problems with other software installations, some of which have benn resolved since disabling the UAC.

I will keep this app around. That means that I do dig it! Small and does what I needed it to do. I rarely keep apps. My hope is that MagicDisc will evolve to the point where the user can mount and remount multiple virtual drives and asign custom drive letters to them all.
