Computer generated music is a source of musical inspiration and ideas. Even if you aren't too familiar with computers, or you don't play a piano, guitar or... create your own song in your own way. Virtual Music Composer produces its own completely new musical themes. Just listen to the music. Get ideas and be inspired. Musical tastes as personal preferences are mostly too subjective. As such they are different from each other. With regards to the subject matter, the estimation of a program efficiency is not a question about anyone's musical taste. All that counts is the amount of time you spend on listening to. Virtual Music Composer works on the basis "Just listen to the music". There's no doubt that everyone's favorite song comes soon or later.

Whenever I tried to "compose" it said it wanted about 2.1Gig of disk space! I have that much on another disk (D:) but I couldn't find a way to point it to D: instead of C: ... hence, I couldn't run it.

The UI seems quite honestly to be a bad joke. It's probably one of the most unworkable and confusing pieces of interactive design I have seen in my entire life. Making it look like a sound card may sound like a fun idea, but it honestly angers me to have to even try to work with something like this. I didn't know where to start, where to stop, what features I could and couldn't use, what a feature did, NOTHING.
And when I got it to work? It almost sounded like something I would use.
This UI needs to be tossed out and serious considerations need to be made to who the audience for this is and how they might us it. Otherwise this just needs to be tossed out.
