This is just what I needed. I work at a hospital and I have many scripts in place to move patient information to other locations. According to HIPAA regulations, these transfers outside our walls need to be secure. Working with a command-line application lets me easily automate these processes so they can run unattended.

Terrific!
It really is a drop-in replacement. I was using windows ftp.exe -s to specify input commands from a file. This neat little utility supported all commands I was using in my scripts. I went looking for an alternative to the old ftp.exe because a partner required passive mode ftp.

Great little automation tool!
We use a Ubuntu server with VSFTP. This tool allows us to securely push or pull files from the FTPS server automatically using scripts. Has increased productivity as our user do not have to manually push or pull their files to or from the FTPS server.

Just exactly what I was looking for!
Our company is in the process of converting to a secure FTP environment. We have many scripts written to help automate FTP processes. I was very concerned after looking on the internet at some of the products available. Imagine my surprise when I found one (MoveIt-Freely) that promised to replace the MS-Windows Command line process FTP.exe. After a very easy installation process, I was almost immediately able to start testing this as a replacement. I did have a slight problem with the return code, but it was easily overcome. Thanks for giving us a great product. I will definitely keep it on my list of "Highly Recommended".

MOVEit command line FTP works!
Works as expected. Provides PASV (passive) option that MicroSoft does not include in their command line FTP client. Now that we have it, we can FTP files with our providers that we could not FTP before.

I wound up using PSCP from PuTTY
I couldn't figure out how to do a secure SCP file transfer with MOVEit freely.
Author's Response:
The "reviewer" may be interested to know that "SCP" is an SSH protocol, not an SSL protocol.

You couldn't figure out how to do an SCP file transfer with MOVEit Freely for the same basic reason you can't heat your apartment with your bike: that isn't its job.

I'm not sure how the documentation and even the description for MOVEit Freely could make it clearer: MOVEit Freely is a free command-line utility that allows you to do FTP and FTP over SSL (FTPS). MOVEit Freely does not do FTP over SSH (SFTP) or SCP.

If you want a free Windows command-line tool to handle the SSH protocols, try "Putty" or a windows port of the "OpenSSH" tools. (We wrote and freely give away MOVEit Freely mainly to fill the "FTP over SSL" gap left by Microsoft's FTP.exe and these various SSH utilities.)

Yeesh.

moveit, extended version of build-in ftp.
Moveit works just like the build-in ftp command of Windows, but it additionally supports the passive transfer mode.

The commandline-arguments are also almost the same, but the '-i' option of the build-in ftp to turn off interactive mode (used in batches when transferring using the mget or mput commands) does not work. In that case, use the 'prompt' option as a command in the ftp script.

Used now a couple of times; no problems seen until now.
Author's Response:
Here are the current arguments (not sure why parent post lists version "3.1" - that's quite old!):

MOVEit Freely 4.0.0.0 - Secure FTP Client.
http://www.standardnetworks.com/moveitfreely
Usage: FTPS [-e:sslmode] [args] [hostname [port]]
where args is zero or more of:
-a to set passive mode. (You can change it during session.)
-c:csecs to set the connect timeout to csecs seconds; default 30.
-ccn:common to specify the Common Name of an optional client certificate.
-csn:store to specify the name of an alternate client certificate store.
-d to display commands sent to the server
-e:sslmode to set the SSL encryption mode:
off no SSL encryption (default)
on encrypt control & data w/ AUTH TLS & PROT P ("explicit")
on-ccc encrypt data & signon but not commands
tls-c encrypt only control connection w/ AUTH TLS
tls-c-ccc encrypt only signon, not data or commands
implicit encrypt both without AUTH; usually to port 990
implicit-ccc like implicit, but don't encrypt commands
-n to not prompt for username/pw at startup
-natact:ip to use ip as our IP address in "Client NAT" mode - active
-natpasv to ignore IP in PASV reply in "Client NAT" mode - passive
-password:x to set the default password.
-quiterror to quit on any error.
-resume to resume transfer if files exist.
-s:filename to read commands from a script file (do not use redirection)
-t:dsecs to set the data transfer timeout to dsecs seconds; default 120.
-user:user to set the default username.
-z to not warn about problems with certificates

The reviewer is correct: the "-i" option has not been implemented, but it's come up just one other time in the six or so years we've been offering the product to the community. (Let us know at "support AT standardnetworks DOT com" if you also feel "-i" would be useful in your situation.)

Price: Just 3 of 5? C'mon - it's free!
