Hercules SETUP is useful utility including terminal for the Serial port (RS232 or RS485), UDP/IP and TCP/IP (Client or Server). Implemented Serial Terminal works with the Virtual Serial Ports (COM12 for example), and controls all serial port lines (CTS, RTS, DTR, DSR, RI, CD). Using Telnet extended with NVT allows serial port configuration, device identification (RFC2217), confirmation of data sequence, etc. Simple TCP client (like the HyperTerminal) with support for view format, file transfers and sending macros to the device. You can also log your communication to the file. It's only one .EXE file and no installation is required. It's distributed as freeware.

Keywords: serial terminal tcp terminal udp terminal rs232 rs 485 rs 232 remote access rs485

I tried to used to test RS232 on my new Laptop. The opening works well but the control of DTR and CTS doesn't change on connector. I don't known yet if I have a hardware problem.

The program is excellent running standalone. Easily portable with media stick. I used the terminal feature and the settings were easily accessible and quick to run.

I am giving herewith the same review which I gave to other similar product.

Thanks for allowing me to test this product. I was looking for a setting which automatically appends CRC to a hex string (since I am trying to use the product as Master of MODBUS RTU). Apparently, this setting is not present in this product so I can't use it. But thanks again anyway.

Hercules is good stuff. I tested it out be running two instances of it on the same machine, and sending messages from one to another under UDP. After getting comfortable with the features, I intend to use it to receive/send packets over the internet, thus testing my GPRS link to my remote embedded device. It looks quite appropriate for what I need to do!

I love it that there is no "installation", no registries that get bloated, and that if I needed to delete it some day, it would be as simple as deleting this one .exe file. Thanks!

The setup was straighforward and options were intuitive enough to easy configure to desired settings.

Would like to have better control of logging though. Perhaps I'm not using it properly, but I can't find an option to stop logging from the menus after I've logged the output I desire. For example, I will often start logging in order to capture the config of a device or specific diagnostic output and don't want miscellaneous output in the logs, so it would be good to have the ability to stop logging after the desired output has been captured.

The program was easy enough to install, it just did not do what I needed. All I wanted was a terminal to accept an ATA command on an incoming call, then allow me to execute a script to connect to a network via a callback.

Just what I needed
I needed a simple program to test serial I/O for a software product. This does the job well. Highly recommended.

Very Useful Tool
Great tool for free-form testing of socket code. Used this to have my code connect up to it prior to integration.

Some of the most useful parts of the tool are hidden in the context-menu. Don't forget to right-click.

Hyperterm replacement
Thanks for making Hercules available.
Hercules in serial mode is much nicer to use than Hyperterm.
Its resource use is modest and when you close the serial port it does not interfere with any other program trying to use it.
I have used it for examining the behavior of GSM and CDMA modems.
I usually leave it running on my test and setup PC.
It would be good to have some more documentation. For example, I found out by chance that F1 sends the first send string.

Hercules - better than hyperterminal
Found this product really easy to use and flexible.

A nice simple to use terminal. I am planning to use it to communicate with small sub systems.

Not very useful
I found the program to be inappropriate to use as an interface to a radio messageing program. I needed to be able to send & receive 9600 baud control instructions to a radio modem. The program was more trouble to use than other older programs [Hyperterminal, etc]. It also tried to open my fireall but Vista security stopped that. I have deleted it from my system.

Hercules not suitable for my application
Sorry, I was looking for something better than Hyperterm. This cannot handle COM ports with higher numbers. We use virtual serial ports a lot and needed something that can do that.

Comment Regard Hercules - Garmin Etrex
Although easy to use.
What I was after was a means of downloading GPS information for a Garmin Etrex. I did get some information, but none of it made much sense.

I did not want to record by hand 70 old points. But looks like that it will have to be done this way.

If anyone has an ideal could you email me on andytafg-jbad@yahoo.com

Thanks
