It instantly converts black and white or colour bitmap images into vector designs ready for use. Graphic artists are faced every day with the problem of having to redesign logos or illustrations because the files they have to use are less than perfect (faxes, visiting cards, low definition files) or the original fonts have gone missing.
Unique correction tools:
* righting a logo so it is perfectly horizontal: a logo is never perfectly aligned in a scanner.
* sharpening corners: these are very often rounded or truncated and amending this in a standard program can be a very time-consuming operation.
* suppressing unnecessary points: simplifying outlines and streamlining the touching up process, thereby saving time.
* converting "flat curves" into straight lines: an enlarged flat curve always reveals defects.
* aligning segments on the same axis: all logo base lines or letters aligned in one fell swoop.
* smoothing tangents: when two curves are not tangent they create bumps that affect the harmony. Detecting them and correcting them can be quite a chore with standard programs.
* suppressing unnecessary points in curves whilst retaining their shape: curves will have an optimum number of points and will be quite straightforward to manipulate.

I tried various ways to trace a bitmap image in Illustrator - none even remotely compares to Silhouette. It's easy to use, fast and produces the BEST tracing I have yet to see.
Quite sufficient for both black and white and color vectorization taht i use.
Excellent that it works with the Illustrator.
Haven´t tried the right drawing tool that comes with it yet.
The price is too high to afford...would by it if it was about 50 USD.

I only evaluated it briefly, and used it against three different building photos. It seems to work well, but I wish the settings used before converting an image to vectors had more options. In varying the settings, I ended with almost the same resultant image. The color vector setting seemed to be overloaded in regards to photos. I know this software is design primarily as a way to grab raster graphic files (such as a JPEG image of a company's logo) and convert it into Illustrator for clarity, but I would ask for the company to examine it's photo conversion applications.
I have not yet evaluated the correction tools.
I will look at the software again to see what other issues occur.
