The human brain uses pop-out features to find interesting visual elements fast. So a major benefit of using this technique is: it is fast! Using a large number of such features and combining them in a weighted way often gives surprisingly good results. Therefore I decided to publish my experimental program as a technology demonstrator. Try it!
With a bit of experience you can browse pictures on your hard disk and from the web by similarity using a picture close to what you are looking for, adjusting feature weights to fit your criterias, select a more similar picture, and repeat this process.
As an additional benefit you can search for duplicate pictures, which have a different image format, or different size, or even for duplicates which have different text stamped into the image.
You can create mosaic pictures made out of other pictures.
For ease of use PictureRelate supports browsing, viewing, renaming, deleting, etc. You can copy and paste and drag and drop images from PictureRelate to other applications or to the desktop and from other applications and the explorer into PictureRelate.
PictureRelate reads all major picture formats like JPG, BMP, PNG and TIFF. Other picture formats can be easily imported once you did install a filter command. Examples for using IrfanView and XnViews NConvert are supplied.
PictureRelate is specifically designed to work with a large number of pictures. 100.000 and more pictures are still searchable easily and quickly on a modern PC, once the database is built.

I started using PictureRelate about a week after I first installed it. I' the type of guy who jumps into the deep end of the software, and sees if he can make it to shore before drowning. My success (or failure) depends on the ease of he software, and the help the program provides me. In the case of PictureRelate, I'd give it an 8 out of 10 for ease of use, and a 7 out of 10 for Help Files. With help like that, I made it to shore on my first try.
The software is extremely good a picking out similarities within a large batch (13,000+) of photo images. At it's minimum comparison settings, it find duplicate images (even amongst different sizes of the same image) in an amazingly short period of time (13,000+ files, remember). A simple mouse-over of the located images tells you everything you need to know in order to save the best quality picture. If you need closer examination of the duplicates, the built in image viewer makes it a snap.
As I moved the slider bar up the scale, more duplicates were found. But even more important was that similar photos were grouped together, making the sorting of a rapid series of screen captures (like from a movie), or a rapid series of pictures taken at high speed (like at a live football game) quick & simple. By the end of my first day of using PictureRelate 2.5.1, I had eliminated nearly 3,380 duplicate image files, and sorted down two series of screen capture images down from 900+ captures to a mere 62 clean & sharp images. That meant I'd been able to completely delete 4.225 images off my hard drives. At an average size of 89 KB, I opened up about 375 MB of disk space.
Another nice feature is the database generation. Once you've made you changes, simply save the database, and when your ready to continue your project, just reopen the database. Poof! All of your picture info is back on the screen, just like you left it. Now combine this with the picture similarity screen, and batching pictures across several folders & hard drives into one single folder on the same subject is a snap.
The only drawback I've found so far (& it's minor) is the the database doesn't intuitively update it's self when pictures are moved to new locations. It does track when you tag & remove a duplicate file, s as long as you don't add new images to your drives, or move images from one folder or drive to another, you'll have no problems between edit, locate & delete sessions. However, if you do either of these to things. Before you start your next session with the software, you'll need to reinitialize the database search, so that the new & moved files are properly cataloged within your new database. If you fail to do this, the program becomes confused by the mismatched data, and has a tendency to lock up.
Overall, I give this software a big "Thumb's Up", or an 8 out of 10 for doing exceptionally well, what other programs have tried to do, but failed to accomplish.
If you've got a lot of images stored on your computer network, like I do, then I highly recommend that you get this software and use it. You'll love the result!
Best wishes,

Quickly and reliably found visually similar or (if requested to) identical photos, even though they were very different sizes and/or names/filetypes.
It would be nice if there was a choice to automatically delete all but the largest of each set of identical files. It is a bit fiddly or time-consuming to achieve this at present if there very many sets of duplicates.

The program failed to load and said the file was corrupted, please advise where I can download a working copy as I have several images I am trying to see if were taken solely for me or were copied and sent to me, i can send the images to you if you would like to search for me but would prefer to have the working program.
