XNote Stopwatch is a digital stopwatch and countdown timer utility for desktop of your computer. XNote Stopwatch features both count-up and count-down modes, alarm with various events, re-sizable digital display with 'always on top' mode and system-wide hotkeys. Anybody can use this software effectively and painlessly: re-sizable display lets you set the optimal size of digits, their font and colors, hotkeys and 'always on top' mode let you manage the stopwatch directly from any application. But XNote Stopwatch is more than just a stopwatch or timer. It can make "snapshots" of time (split/lap control as in usual stopwatches) and insert records right into your MS Excel spreadsheet! Formulas will be autorecalculated by Excel! If you perform discontinuous time measures, you can save/load sessions, "rewind" time back or fast-forward to any point. By default XNote Stopwatch counts time up to 1/100 of second, however you can change it to any number of events per second (as in TV frames - 24/25/60) and even get rid off decimals or hours at all. External control through serial COM port is a great low-cost opportunity for sport racers. It does what it says on the package - timer & stopwatch in one. The interface is simple, but it does the trick and that's all I need it to do, nothing fancy. Now the only thing I wish it also did was be an Alarm clock, so that I don't have to get another widget to do that but for those who want just a stopwatch/timer, this is perfect.

It was pretty intuitive to use. I think the most useful addition would be to allow the user to set multiple default times in countdown timer mode. This saves the hassle of having to change things manually each time.
Also in compact mode, it would be nice if the commands were still accessible, perhaps by hovering the mouse cursor over the box.
Otherwise a good competent, free device. It does what it says, and it's nice that you can set the alarm to play mp3s.

You can change the background, font and font colours for best viewing in your room and by your pupils and add an audible sound of your choice. Ideal tool for using to time starter activities or to encourage pupils to work to a deadline.

Version: 1.40simple but effective design with some thoughtful features. If you're looking for a simple timing application for Windows, this is as good as any and probably better!
I use this app for tracking my billable time, and there are two simple but key things that make it useful; one, it allows multiple instances, with each instance having its own set of hotkeys to control the timer and two, the timer can be set to a custom start time, very handy for when a PC must be rebooted or restarted.
What also appeals is simple customisation options like font, colours, size etc. Some thoughtfulness has gone into this app!
