Arpoon Checksum computes checksums of files. A checksum (message digest, hash value) is a kind of fingerprint that enables to uniquely identify a file or document. This can be used for authentication purposes or to track document modifications.

By way of example, this tool can be utilized to:

* uniquely identify a given file, thus using the checksum as a fingerprint.
* survey a file i.e. to check if a file as been modified by comparing its actual checksum with a previously archived value.
* look for possible duplicate of files by scanning hardware storage devices (hard disk, DVD, CD, memory sticks...)
* verify the authenticity i.e. genuineness of a fingerprinted document that has been sent to you (e.g. as an EMail attachment or by way of a download) by comparing its on-the-fly computed checksum with its stored fingerprint.

Builtin functionality:

* Drag&Drop of files or directories
* Recursive calculation for directories strucutres (optional)
* Result list can be sorted (ascending/descending) by every single checksum type
* Link to files can be resolved (optional)
* Hash values can be displayed as hexadecimal or as a MIME-compatible base64 code
* Display of detailled file properties like attributes, size, date of creation...
* Result list may be exported to the clipboard or saved as CSV or HTML files
* During long run calculation, the computing progression is displayed
* Statistics on computation (average speed rate, file size ...) are automatically collected
* A warning message may be displayed before a time consuming computation is started
* Multiple files computation may be aborted during the calculation
* Checksum calculation for a very big files may be aborted too
* All options are maintened in an Ini-file, which is automatically saved in the current user's application data directory, allowing a per user configuration

Great application

This is a great application to maintain some order to your files. The best use is when you are constantly sharing files and sometimes the version numbers can be wrong...

Not so useful . . .

Sorry, it didn't work. I used Arpoon Checksum to calculate the MD5SUM value for a downloaded DVD.iso, but at the end it produced a wildly inaccurate result, in fact it was totally at variance with the mfr's published value. I ran MD5SUM.exe on the .iso file at command level, which produced the correct value. I also used HashCalc, which again produced a correct MD5SUM. So, I'll continue to use HashCalc. I have deleted Arpoon Checksum, but I want to thank you for making the utility available.

Arpoon Checksum for Images

I wanted a utility to compare scientific images for dissimilarity. Arpoon Checksum is perfect. I have only done a quick check but the features I like are: The ability to have multiple checksum and hash values for comparison The nice table the utility builds as you check files for comparisons, the ease of use - took 30secs to figure out how to use the application and easy installation. Thanks for a useful utility relieving me of having to write something.

Checksums Made Easy

The program works well and is very fast. Interface is intuitive. Nice that it doesn't require installation, just make make a shortcut.

The display is excellent because it allows easy comparison of checksums for multiple files, no need to make notes.

I used it to compare BIOS BIN images to see if they matched.

Two suggestions: it would be helpful if the window could be set to "Always on Top", plus it would be nice if the file date were included after the file name.

Overall, an excellent program that does what it should with style.
