A photoshop plugin which allows you to read NOAA marine charts.
NOAA marine charts are the standard raster charts and have the file extension of *.bsb and *.kap.
Simply download and install BSB Import and any program capable of using Photoshop plugins will be able to read and edit NOAA BSB format nautical charts.
It's free to try and easy to install.
Once a chart is imported into Photoshop you can:
- Print the chart.
- Paste charts together to cover a larger area.
- Create and print your own custom charts to cover the area you want.
- Edit Charts.
- Print a small area of a chart.

Very simple to use allowed me to just drag and drop KAP files onto photoshop. I was a bit confused at first because it didn't allow me to open the BSB files but then I realized that these didn't actually contain the images.
Someone else commented that the resolution was not good.
I don't understand this because it opens the charts at exactly the same resolution they are saved in.
Any change in resolution would be done in Photoshop.
All in all it does exactly what it says it will do.
I would definitely recommend this plugin!

I tried the version that shows the checkerboard pattern. Looking between the black blocks at the actual chart image, that image lacks the resolution my Maptech chart viewer provides. The colors also are not as saturated. These effects are quite noticeable when the chart is resized to less than full size.
I currently use a command line utility (Bsb2png) from the internet to convert from BSB format to PNG format. I can then work with the chart image with Photoshop by loading the png format. That scheme works without losing the qualities of the original chart image but is rather labor intensive. I often use Photoshop to save the chart in bmp or jpg format.
